So this week I decided to tag along with my wife and son to our local amusement park where she meets up with her other mom friends to let the kids get together and run around a bit. My responsibility? Bring the snacks and take pictures – piece of cake!

It wasn’t until I had a child of my own and became more involved with other parents and getting everyone fed that I realized there’s sometimes children who have nut allergies that are quite serious. In fact 1 in every 13 children have a food allergy – It’s more common than you’d think!

Making Nut Free Choices In Social Gatherings

I can’t imagine how stressful it must be for parents to have to grill the person supplying snacks at any social gathering, making sure what’s in it isn’t going to cause a reaction, or just having to constantly remember to bring safe foods for their children.

And as the person supplying the snacks, it’s a chore just to find out who has allergies and find something that meets everyones requirements, PLUS tastes good! I figured just to make things easy on everyone, I’d bring along Skeeter Nut Free snacks and keep from any of the kids from having to feel excluded.

A Little Background On Skeeter Nut Free

Skeeter Nut Free was founded back in 2012 by two dads who were frustrated by the lack of nut-free foods available for their kids who had food allergies. They were frustrated that what was safe was expensive and didn’t appeal to their non-allergic kids and they were tired of reading labels and ingredient lists and of reminding other parents to do so.

I’m not going to lie, those dads did a bang up job in making something that is safe for children with food allergies, AND appeal to the non-allergic kids as well! With an assortment of cookies and graham crackers, there is something for all the kids, and parents food allergy or not, everyone gets to get down on some good treats! My son fortunately hasn’t developed any food allergies and has been so excited for “mini cookies” (as he was calling them) since our package arrived!

Don’t let that face fool you, he’s excited to eat cookies; not so excited to have his picture taken.

Handing out snacks was a success, and there was no awkward “Does anyone have children with food allergies?” and singling out the kids who did making them feel different from others. Everyone is included and everyone is happy and smiling with chocolate chips stuck in their teeth; Win-Win!

I brought at least 12 bags total to feed everyone, and they went fast! I should have brought double that because the moms were getting down on these snacks, including myself. I can’t tell you enough that if you wouldn’t know these were allergy safe unless someone told you.

Every bag I tried tasted great, which was probably the opposite of what I thought it was going to be only because when you think of something being along the lines of nut-free/food-allergy safe you kind of raise and eyebrow and think “Ok, well what type of cardboard is this going to taste like?”. I was so glad this wasn’t the case with Skeeter Nut Free!

I’ve got to hand it to these moms. In a crowded amusement park with a bunch of kids running around in the kids play area (Yep. The kids wanted to go to the play area at the amusement park!) moms don’t miss a beat regardless of being in the middle of a conversation if their child strays too far.

I, on the other hand, am running around like a nut (no pun intended) just trying to get the shot and keep enough Skeeter Nut Free snacks on hand to keep them from attacking me!

Being able to just run out of the house with nut free snacks on hand when going to a gathering where you don’t really know who is all going to be there and if they have food allergies really does makes things easier.

I can already picture in my head the hectic group text messaging going on trying to coordinate snacks for the kids who have allergies. Skeeter Nut Free really did a great job in making sure they include everyone by making it a safe product on top of super tasty so everyone will devour them!

On a side note – I seriously miss the days where I had the energy these kids have. Seriously though – WHY?! Why is it when you’re 5 you have all the energy in the world to play, but at 33 doing the same activity you’re winded in 5 minutes?!

It’s a cruel joke I tell you – but then again, I probably shouldn’t be trying to go down the slide at my age.

It was really a great day and something that I needed after the last few weeks I’ve been having. I got to finally get to the amusement park with my family since they always go on the weekdays without me. Took plenty of photos (if you couldn’t notice), and everyone was happy with bellies full of Skeeter Nut Free treats! Although I have to admit – my first trip with the moms was tough, and I definitely got my cardio in for the day. Kudos to these moms they make my 9-5 look like a walk in the park!
